Montana on my Mind.
So I crossed the WV state line sometime yesterday evening. Leaving Montana is always hard, always. I was feeling quite cross about having to leave for the first half of my trip home, but somewhere in the middle of the country, I began to get home sick for WV. A great deal of that homesickness grew from the miles and miles of flat land and corn that I stared at. There is something startling beautiful about seeing flat land and that flat in turn enabling you to see for miles and miles in front of you. And the miles of corn and crops that flow before you is also a sight to see, but after awhile, the stark flat kind of becomes sad and I long to see rolling hills and eventually mountains. I like it when the landscape starts to buckle and swirl and sometimes emerge and loom ahead of you. This drive always remind me that I must always live among hills and mountains. The crumpling ups of the earth, make me feel safe and WV mountains always feel like a hug. I guess for me there are only two places I'd ever live: here or Montana. I may consider other mountainous places but for now these two remain at a tie high, high on my list.
Anyway, here are a few images from Montana. Trust me, this blog will be lively with posts from my past few weeks out west and yes, there will be new portrait sessions to post soon enough.

This is great writing. Your description of the land and a sense of place makes me think that you're a closet geographer :)
You're right in saying that mountains are cozy. In my opinion, however, you can't get much prettier than a sunset in the Great Plains or the Midwest. The view is so wide open and flat that sometimes you feel like you can see where Earth bends.
What beautiful images!!
Scott, I'd never deny my inner geographer. Okay, so I'm not going to lie, sunset's out West totally win (I guess that whole thing with the sun actually going down in the west thing kind of helps), but I still prefer to watch the sun drop down behind some mountains. It's an added bonus if those just happen to be the Rockies! I just can't shake those mountains.
Thank you Sarah! :) Oh and again, I loved your wedding images. I'm still thinking about them.
You HAVE to write a book! Maybe a travelogue? I'm glad that you're back.
