Garnet Ghost Town, MT
Garnet Ghost Town is one of my favorite places on earth to photograph. Okay on earth may be a strong statement, but it defiantly is one of my favorite places to be when I'm in Montana. Some of my favorite images from my summer in RMSP came from Garnet. I can't tell you how many times I've walked that dirt path down the hill to get to the town. I can tell that every time I get the part of the little trail that overlooks the town, that it still takes my breath away(and no, it's not just the high altitude) and I gets me all kinds of excited. Even if there are other people around, you can still find places to be quiet and just photograph all the leftovers your heart can desire. It's just some kind of different magic to me. I always long to see this place during it's heyday, and yet, I love it because of the way it's slowly slipping away. I just hope it doesn't ever totally go away. I'd feel kind of lost without it.
This go around, I got to see Garnet in a different way. We ended up doing portrait sessions through the town(mostly just at the old hotel--which I do believe is actually haunted) but I found a few minutes to stop and get a few pictures of some of things that make Garnet, Garnet. I'm already making big plans for the old ghost town my next trip out. I think that as long as there is a Garnet, I'll always have big plans for it.
